The Golf R has always been a favorite of enthusiasts and customizers, but this golf has enough pampering on the inside to win over the more “refined” Volkswagen fans.
Die-hard owners will appreciate the 2.0L Turbocharged inline 4. It is capable of unleashing 256HP while still getting 27MPG on the highway. New comers will love that both seats in the front are heated, the steering wheel mounted audio controls, and Bluetooth.
Include the standard 4motion all wheel drive, the navigation system, and all the safety features (ABS TCS and airbags) and you have a very fun, very distinguished car that you could take to the track and then to your black tie affair.
As far as power goes, this modestly sized hatchback ranks near the top of list when it comes to Volkswagens you can buy off the lot. The top-end Jetta has 200HP and the V6 Passat tops the Golf with its 280HP. The Touareg starts with 280HP, but if you get the turbo-charged hybrid you can get 380HP and still achieve 24MPG highway.
