Over 100 million people will tune in to the Super Bowl Sunday for an entire evening of entertainment. If you are one of them, whether you’re watching for the game itself, the halftime show, or the year’s best commercials, be sure to watch for the debut of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat and the new redesigned 2012 Beetle.
“We have a big story, and we need a big platform to tell that story,” said Tim Ellis, vice president for marketing at Volkswagen of America in Herndon, Va., part of the German automaker Volkswagen.
Ellis proclaims the Super Bowl is “Unlike any other media platform,” and although this is nearly 9 months ahead of the release of two of Volkswagen’s best-selling cars, it is sure to get Volkswagen-lovers buzzing, and that’s exactly the goal.
Mike Sheldon, chief executive of the creative agency for Volkswagen of America, Deutsch L.A says a goal for the commercials is to “get consumers buzzing about the brand, and get dealers buzzing as well. It’s a great way, early in the year, to kick things off.”
The commercial for the Passat will be humorous, and will be especially appealing to Star Wars fans, as it portrays a young boy in a Darth Vader costume trying to work “Dark – Magic” on items around his house including his parents brand new 2012 Volkswagen Passat.
The commercial for the New Beetle is much more of a “teaser” as the viewer will catch but only a glimpse of the redesigned iconic car as a small beetle insect races through a forest and leaves the viewer with a short message, “The 21st Century Beetle: Coming this Fall.”
One commercial will be aired during the second quarter of the game, and the other will be seen during the fourth quarter, so be sure to watch for both. And of course, enjoy the game as well.
